Activate Aurora Campaign will transform Aurora
 into “Canada’s Most Active Community”

(Aurora ON, August 23, 2016) – Activate Aurora will launch a major, town-wide campaign to transform Aurora into “Canada’s Most Active Community” on Sunday, September 18.

“Led by Sport Aurora and supported by the Mayor’s Task Force on Physical Activity and Ontario Trillium Foundation, this initiative has the community and political backing to make it a great success,” said project organizer Ron Weese.

Representatives from the Town of Aurora, York Region Public Health Department, Southlake Regional Health Centre, York Region District School Board, York Catholic District School Board, Aurora Seniors’ Association, Seneca College and Canadian Sport for Life Society as well as the entire Sport Aurora Membership have all contributed hundreds of hours in planning the campaign.

The campaign launch takes place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex located at 134 Industrial Parkway North, in Aurora. Celebrity appearances, a Sport Expo and demonstration of an online support hub are some of the activities planned.

“Everyone in the town is invited to the Activate Aurora Campaign launch to learn what they can do individually and collectively transform Aurora into the healthiest and most physically literate community in the nation,” said Weese.

Activate Aurora began in 2014 when a group of almost 40 community leaders, spearheaded by Sport Aurora, came together to discuss how to move Aurora into a ‘Sport for Life Community.’ Following the declaration of 2015 as the Year of Sport in Aurora and the formation of the Mayor’s Task Force on Physical Activity, the Town of Aurora along with Sport Aurora and its partners have progressed towards the goal of increasing the physical literacy and well-being of everyone in the community.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.

The Activate Aurora Campaign launch is a free, family-friendly event. Residents can find out more online atwww.activeaurora.ca or by calling Sport Aurora at 289-221-5763.
