What is Activate Aurora Doing?

This Project is a cross-sectorial, multi-focused, progressive, three-year project funded by Sponsors and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and endorsed by the Mayor’s Task Force on Physical Activity with the Mission of making Aurora “Canada’s Most Active Community.”

Every person can help us achieve our goal by taking the pledge to move for every day, and make every step count.

To help build our Community, numerous projects have been approved, allowing you and every member of your family to get involved at any time. Whether you are:

Our programs will help and inspire you. We want and value your input and participation!

Here’s How:

Take the pledge.

Move every day.

Spread the Word.

Encourage all your family members to do the same!

Participate in our Projects.

  1. The Multi-Sport Aurora Program

    – We know that kids who build competence in fundamental movement skills will also have improved confidence. In our after-school multi-sport program, children improve their physical literacy by learning how to run, jump, throw and catch, hop and skip, swim, slide and skate in a fun, non-competitive environment. The Program is designed for kids who haven’t felt comfortable joining one of our many local sport organizations. But we know they will once they see the skills they are learning. Inquire here to learn more and register your child.

  2. Make your School an Activate Aurora School.

Each year, a number of Schools are invited to join in our Activate Aurora Schools Project. These schools will be including not only the 30 minutes of curricular time but will try and add another 30 minutes of co-curricular activity in order to meet the Canadian standards of 60 minutes of meaningful physical activity daily in our schools. Resources and expertise are available for every Activate Aurora school which includes:a Walk-to School Program, a Quality Daily Physical Activity program and Play Days – all designed to build healthy activity attitudes and behaviours. This Program is endorsed by both the York Region and York Catholic District School boards and is delivered by trained teachers and York Region Public Health professionals. To learn how your school can become an Activate Aurora School, inquire here.

  3. The Active Aging Program

Are you an adult of any age who wants to make a change in your activity level, safely and effectively? Join our Active Aging Program designed to help build durable, physically literate and energized adults. This Program will identify how you can become physically active during your busy life. Want to lose weight or simply get back to an activity level where you feel comfortable, vital and energized? This Program gives you the information and the tools to implement that strategy. We have partnered with many commercial and non-profit Program providers to guarantees you will get the program you need.

  4. Mini Summits:

Our Mini Summits are designed for professionals who work in the field and want professional development opportunities and networking to help advance their careers and make them better able to work in the Active Community setting. This Program is supported and delivered by Seneca College who will be offering these Summits each year in the Spring and Fall. Registering with Activate Aurora ensures you will be informed and involved professionally with the Program, your colleagues and opportunities for growth in your profession.

  5. Training and Support:

Are you a Sport and Municipal Recreation leader? We want to help you build capacity in the entire Community by providing the most advanced and recent certifications to coaches and leaders who volunteer or work in the Community. Whether you are now a sport/activity leader or want to become one in order to help make Aurora Canada’s Most Active Community, this training program will help you get started and will keep you current for the many opportunities which will grow along with our program.
